Being a DJ is part psychologist, part sociologist, part preacher, part travel agent, part producer, “hype-man”, and a whole lotta love. A DJ should speak with the hands, have something to say. One reason the House Music story gets told over & over again, is because that story is part of the greater DJ story. I say, for example, that the histories of House Music & Hip-Hop are musical cousins, related by the DJ. The musical legacy of both genres can be traced back to even earlier radio and production studio techniques brought to “the streets” which influenced the art of sound manipulation.
